Forever Wild is now on Facebook!

Spring is on it's way and Forever Wild is gearing up for another very busy season. In 2009 FW took in thousands of baby birds, mammals and even a reptile or two!

This year we have a number of exciting new programs in the works. A big part of that is keeping in touch with the people that bring animals into our Center!

We know you care!
If you took the time out of your day to help rescue an animal in need and bring them into the Center then what happens to that animal matters to you. Forever Wild may take in 200 baby rabbits in one season but if you are the one that brings us that bunny, that one is special to you. We want you to know that one is special to us too.

Facebook is helping us do that! There are just not enough hours in the day for us to let everyone know how each animal that comes into our Center is doing (and most of those hours we are knee deep in mealworms and baby formula!) but when you become a Fan of our new Facebook page you will get updates on animals at the center, information about volunteer projects and invitations to spceial events! You can post questions and even send us your wildlife photos!
One of the things that is most important to the rehabilitation of wildlife is reducing the numbers of animals that come into our center in the first place. That starts with education and connection to the people that come in contact with wildlife every day.

That means you!
Come be a Fan and become part of a great community working to protect Arizona's wildlife!

Help prevent "After Easter Bunnies"

Every year after Easter Forever Wild and shelters all across the US receive calls from families looking for homes for bunnies they brought home on impulse over the holidays.

Rabbits can make wonderful pets for the right family. They can be litter box trained and walked on leashes. They love toys and a good snuggle but they take time and attention just like any other family member. They can overheat easily and need a good bunny dentist. A pet rabbit can live 7 to 10 years and is a commitment just like a new puppy or kitten.

And just like puppies and kittens, shelters and rescues are full of bunnies waiting for good homes. Forever Wild has 8 bunnies of all different shapes and sizes waiting for adoption! Always, always try to get a new pet from a rescue before you buy from a pet store or breeder! If you think your family might be the bunny kind give Darlene a call at 520-574-3579 and she can help you find the perfect bunny for you!

But no matter how cute the little pink nose, twiching whiskers and those great big ears, please make sure you are ready to take that leap!(Ok, so I could not resist the pun!)

Hopi's Day at the park!

Please welcome Hopi, Forever Wilds newest Wildlife Ambassador! Hopi is a two year old male Harris Hawk that came into the rehabilitation center with a badly injured wing. The wing healed but sadly the damage was too great for Hopi to be released back into the Arizona skies. To become a Wildlife Ambassador an animal must have a few very important traits; wit, charm, style. Hopi has it all (in excess sometimes!) And so his training, and ours began. Anyone that has ever worked with Harris Hawks can tell you that these birds present some very special challenges during training. Called the "Wolves of the Sky" because of a cooperative hunting technique that is unique among birds these guys are problem solvers. While you are trying to figure out how to get Hopi to come to the fist for his dinner he is trying to figure out how to make you trip over his water dish and drop his dinner so he can steal it!

In the end training is really all about both animals, the human and the non human, learning to communicate. Hopi learned what we needed from him and he taught us what he needed from us. Now it was time to put those lessons to the test!

The Arizona Animal Fair is a wonderful spring event held in Reid Park that brings animal rescue groups, pet related businesses and animal lovers from all over Tucson together. The last few years Elmira, the barn owl, another of our Wildlife Ambassadors has been a big success at the fair. Giving many people their first ever glimpse of these beautiful ghostly birds. It was the perfect place for Hopi to make his debut! We had anticipated that he would quickly become overwhelmed with all the people and pets. The plan was to keep a close eye on him for signs of stress, and to make sure to give him as many breaks as he needed through out the afternoon. It was very important that his first experience be a good one. We need not have worried. I think Hopi had as much fun a we did! Only twice did I see him act concerned at all. Once when a gentleman let his dog jump up on the back of one of our volunteers to get a closer look at Hopi, and once when a lady brought her pet bunny by!

Our very first Fundraiser! A mini golf tournament at "Golf N' Stuff" in Tucson

Hello Everyone!

Forever Wild Animal Rehabilitation Center is holding our very first Fundraiser! I'd like to invite all of you to come out and have a great time and help raise funds for Arizona wildlife!

We are having a mini golf tournament on Wednesday, May 16th at Golf N' Stuff. Registration will begin at 6:30 pm. There will be cool raffle items, a chance to meet our wildlife ambassador and a very special opportunity to become a Forever Wild Member!

Last year was a record year for us! We took in over 2300 animals. Ladies and gentlemen that's a whole lot of bird food. This year is shaping up to be just as big! We are looking for fun and exciting ways to raise funds for the animals that come into our center.

We need your help to make this event a success. "Wild Put" at Golf N' Stuff is going to be a great time! Come out and kick off the beginning of summer with a round of mini golf!
